Reading on the Rails


Thanks to our great friends at the Iowa Northern Railway, children and adults of all ages will have the opportunity to participate in a Reading on the Rails excursion. For only the 2nd time in 55 years organizers have made arrangements to run the Hawkeye Express train on the historic CRANDIC railroad. Bring the entire family aboard this special literary excursion!

Tickets purchased online will only be available for pick-up at the Children's Book Fair, Saturday January 14 Reading on the Rails Will Call Booth at the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel. No Exceptions.

Your PayPal receipt is not a Train Ticket - You must pick up your Train Tickets at the Reading on the Rails Will Call Booth at the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel Saturday January 14.

Round Trip Ticket Options, $10 per passenger, children 2 and under free - lap seating

North Liberty Station is located near the North Liberty Community Library on Cherry Street. You may park at the library.
The University of Iowa Main Library Station is located on the west side of the UI Main Library. You may park at the metered lot nearby or at the Capitol Street Garage (Burlington & Capitol Street)

Train Tickets are no longer available online. You may purchase tickets at the Children's Book Fair, Saturday January 14 at the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel. Cash or check only.

Both of our library partners (North Liberty & University of Iowa) will have special children's programming taking place throughout the duration of the excursions including:

Depending on availability, a limited number of tickets may be available for purchase at the Children's Book Fair for cash or check only.

SAFETY NOTE: Safety is our number one priority. Due to day-of weather or track conditons, planners reserve the right to cancel the excursion. If that happens, details of this news will be made available here on the official website and through media announcements. One Book Two Book will not be able to issue a refund. Thanks to our friends at the Iowa Children's Museum and University of Iowa, if the train does not run, tickets may be redeemed for complimentary admission to the ICM AND a free train ride during the next Iowa home football season.
